    Hi all

I understand from the lecture that the true ground state (exact wave function has the lowest energy). If we work with Slater-determinant type wave functions, then the lowest energy is defined by the correlation energy. If we work with product functions, then also the exchange energy is added. We saw that we need to correct for this exchange-correlation energy expressed in the exchange-correlation functional.

My question is: if we worked with Slater-determinant type wave functions, would we only need to correct for correlation energy, thus only have a correlation functional?

    Kind regards
    Boo
